GOD knows how to deliver us from sin. We do not. PDF Print E-mail

A lot of Christians have gotten the idea somewhere that God only forgives us of our sins and forgets that the bible says “He also delivers us from sin.” Deliver means “to set free” and “…lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” The finished work of the cross has either slipped our minds, or we have not read past the crucifixion.

As I have said many times “there is more to what Jesus did on the cross than fire insurance.” The proof of what I am saying goes all the way back to the book of Genesis to the Garden of Eden where man lost his intimate relationship with God the Father. Jesus came to earth from heaven to restore our relationship with God, and by doing so, the Gift of eternal life was restored. God never intended for Adam and Eve to die. Praise God that eternal life was given back through Jesus, but the emphases is supposed to be on the relationship between God and man. Until we get this part in order our relationship, we’ll always be flawed, and the blessing and benefits of this relationship will never be reconciled. It is an act of arrogance and an insult to Jesus to think we can have any part in the new covenant except to be beneficiaries. I will never understand why this wonderful gift is so hard for us to understand. I am going to put it in plain English for those who do not understand. “If you have to work for it, it is not a gift.”, and even if you try, you could never pay the price for this gift. That is why Jesus came to do it for us.

2 Peter 2:9 (KJV)
9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished…
God knew we could not fulfill the demands of the law and the holiness of it. After all, we were made in his image. An image (according to Webster dictionary is: a reproduction or imitation of the form of a person or thing) through salvation.
1 John 4:17 (KJV)
17 Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.
We may not come to the realization of this instantly, but through our relationship with him, over time, we begin to see who we are and what we are heirs of. But, if that relationship is flawed with misconceptions of whom He really is and his attributes, then we have a very misguided approach to that relationship. For example, you may have gone to school with a person, and they were really quiet and seemed to be from outward appearance to be weird. Maybe they are very tall - almost giant - and you have seen a lot of people make fun of them. One day you meet face to face, with no one around, and you’re very uncomfortable, but you decide to speak. They greet you with a calming gentle voice and a smile on their face. You began to see them completely different, and your fears and thoughts began to change toward them. The misconceptions suddenly begin to dissipate, and you begin to feel comfortable around them and able to converse with them, and a relationship blossoms. As time goes by, you begin to understand and appreciate this person and value the relationship and what it brings to enrich your life. That is the same way your relationship with the Lord works. He not only wants to be your Lord; He wants to be your father and best friend.

2 Corinthians 5:18 (KJV)
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation…
It does not say by us or our deeds or works. It says by Jesus Christ.
The dictionary defines the word "reconcile" as: 1. To restore friendship between. 2. To settle, as a dispute. 3. To bring (oneself) to accept. 4. To make compatible or consistent: reconcile different points of view.
Every change that has taken place in our spirits was God's doing.
Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. There is no sin or corruption in the born-again…
Philippians 2:12 (KJV)
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
I have read and heard many interpretations of this passage of scripture, and I am amazed at what some of the answers were. With a little study and application of the true attributes of our Lord, through the eyes of grace, the answer is pretty simple. “God works salvation in us.” (Php 2:13). When we are born again (accept Christ as our Lord and Savior), the Lord deposits everything He accomplished through His death and resurrection in us. Then, we have to work it out of our spirits and into the physical realm. It is already in us, and we just need to get it out. We've already got it. Believe and act accordingly. I believe when the relationship with Him is right, it’s not something you have to do; it is something you will want to do. He's already done His part. It's our turn to believe and appropriate what God has already provided by grace. Let's move on.

The word reconciled simply means to bring into agreement or to make the same. When Jesus reconciled us to God, He brought us into agreement with and made us just like God. Some people think that is blasphemy. But, that is what this word means.
Our born-again spirit has been made completely new, and it is reconciled to God. Our spirits are identical. The English word 'reconciled' was translated from the Greek word KATALLAGE, which means 'exchange (figuratively adjustment); i.e. restoration (to divine) favor.' God took our sins and gave us His righteousness!
Some people can't accept this because they know themselves only from the humanistic point of view. Whatever God's Spirit is like is what your born-again spirit is like. Praise the Lord!
2 Corinthians 5:19 (KJV)
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.

Notice what this verse says and what it doesn't say. It doesn't say "God was in Christ reconciling some Christians unto himself not imputing their trespasses unto them." Instead it says, "God was in Christ RECONCILING THE WORLD unto Himself..." “The provision for our reconciliation was made before we were saints.” (Ro 5:8).
When you read a history book, you are reading about things that have already happened. They are not reporting prophecy. They are reporting history, so our real job as ministers of reconciliation is to announce the good NEWS - an accomplished fact that sin has been dealt with already through the person of Christ. I beseech you, be ye reconciled to God. “Change your mind and believe the gospel so that you may partake of that which has already been done on your behalf."
The Greek word translated "imputing" was an accounting term meaning "to lay to one's account". Our Father God didn't send His Son to collect our debt but to pay our debt. This is what makes Christianity so unique. God didn't send Jesus to give us an instruction manual of what we had to do to get right with God. We only have to believe and receive. Why are we as born again believers trying to redeem ourselves? He did for us what we couldn't do for ourselves, and then He offered us right standing with His Father as a gift.
All of the other founders of the world's religions offered instruction about what we have to do to obtain salvation. But, Jesus did what we needed to do to satisfy God's holy demands. He died for us, bearing our punishment, and now offers us a receipt of our account with God that says, "Paid in full."
2 Corinthians 5:20 (KJV)
Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.

An ambassador doesn't have the authority to make policy himself. He simply represents the one who sent him. Likewise, we are ambassadors for Christ. We don't have the authority to deliver our own message. We have to accurately represent the one who sent us. God was not imputing men's sins unto them. We, as ministers of Christ, should be preaching the same message.

2 Cor. 5:18: The key term in this passage is "reconciliation." The dictionary states that to reconcile means to re-establish friendship between; to settle or resolve, as a dispute. The key to reconciliation is effectively dealing with the enmity, ill will, hatred, or hostility that has caused the dispute. The enmity between man and God was sin. God took the initiative to remove this barrier through Jesus Christ, thus leaving man and God as friends once again. God takes the initiative; man merely responds. God is the subject of reconciliation; man is the object of reconciliation. God does the reconciling, and man is the one who is reconciled; it is the latter whose attitude is basically changed"
William F. Beck translates this verse in the following way: "But God has done it all. When we were His enemies, through Christ He made us His friends and gave us the work of making friends of enemies."
2 Cor. 5:18: Notice that we have received the ministry of reconciliation. That means that we are in the ministry of reconciling people to God. Much of what people call the gospel today is actually alienating man from God. We need to show people their need for God to get them to receive His forgiveness and reconciliation, but the anger and bitterness with which many confront the sinner with has an opposite effect ultimately driving them away from God with a hopeless feeling of never being able to qualify. But thank God Jesus did qualify us.
In the next verse, Paul says that the way God used Jesus to reconcile the world unto Himself was by not imputing their sins unto them. That's the way we should minister. We should not major on the problem of sin, but on the answer of God's grace.
Romans 5:20 (KJV)
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound
Romans 5:8 (KJV)
8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 4:3 (KJV)
3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
My friends no matter what your carnal mind, Satan, or religious people tell you, if you accept or have accepted through the finished work of Jesus Christ and what He accomplished on the cross, your sins past present and future are forgiven never to be remembered no more, cast in the sea of forgetfulness as far as the east is from the west you are righteous, holy and qualify for all the blessing and favor as an heir of a holy Kingdom. Amen.
