A thought came into my mind while I was on tour recently. While watching and listening to fellow Christians from different denominations, I observed a conversation on why people are not going to church these days. Listening as everyone expressed there opinion, I was amazed and deeply saddened at the responses I heard; although different denominations' answers were very similar.

The true nature of who Christ is and what he accomplished on the cross never came up. It always seemed to end up with us carrying the burdens and the cross. Where is the salvation in that? It seems like people want to suffer themselves and cheapen what Jesus did as though his sacrifice was not good enough. I deem it sad that a portion of why this is the case lies on us as ministers and teachers of the Gospel of Grace. We have a chosen responsibility as men and women in the family of God and leadership role to have a healthy relationship with Him and to seek the real truths about the finished work of the Cross and what all it consists of ourselves. Instead, we also rely on what someone else has said and taught. We are to be shepherds and not sheep. Although we are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling as Philippians 2:12 says, we as shepherds should be able to guide others to the true path. I would be pressed to say that a large amount do not even know what this scripture means. I am sure I would get many different answers or opinions. "Why is this?" you might ask. It is very obvious to me - a relationship problem with the Father! A very good way of understanding scripture is changing your mindset from YOUR performance to His finished work. Our performance is inadequate at best, and it falls short with the commandments of a holy God. Only the gospel of Grace (Jesus) can perform this.

It is hard to add to a finished work and also hard for us in our arrogant self sufficient nature to accept.
